Sentimental Weekend Fun

This last Thursday John and I made a quick trip up to Manassas for my brother Austin's graduation from Jr. High. The highlight of the evening was the persuasive essay contest winners. My brother got 4th place for his essay, "The Benefits of Nuclear Power." The most hilarious winner's title was "Why Vegetarianism is Not Healthy for You." (I have a few friends that should read this! j/k)
It was funny returning to Seton for a school event. Once I've been removed from the place for awhile, when I return, so do all the feelings that I felt when I first visited the place for the Oldies Family Dance prior to my first week of school. Unfortunately no one told me it was an oldies dance, so I walked into the gym back then to girls in big skirts, parents in dated clothing, and people swing dancing. I think I cried a little and felt disastrously out of place and time. As the years passed, I learned to realize that people do swing dance there regularly and it was fun, but most importantly that the walls of the school and the people that filled it could never be measured by the clothes they wore, or the quality of the facilities. Seton has made incredible progress with a whole new building across the street, but I feel honored to be a part of its more humbled beginnings. We will be celebrating with a bunch of other alumni in a few weeks for the Seton Gala. Should be a great time and full of celebration and appreciation for the Seton community.

Later that weekend we traveled back to NOVA for my friend Jen's wedding. Jen was my best friend in nursing school and we have so many amazing memories of surviving nursing school, boys, and college together. She is the kind of woman who was made to be a bride so this day was a long time coming and the tears were rolling the whole time. She was absolutely stunning and beaming the entire time. John and I love her new husband and couldn't be happier that she found her soul mate!!

I stole this pic from facebook b/c I was too busy to take pictures:

Here is a pic of the 4 of us from our wedding:

Many thanks to Kate and Karl for putting us up!! We were in and out all weekend but did get a chance to catch up over brunch at an amazing French place in the Reston Town Center. If I lived in NOVA I would eat there every day!! (kate, you'll have to remind me of the name!)
